You may not realize it, but your body is packed with a lot of health benefits that you are reaping the moment the first sip of your smoothie. There are a lot of different health benefits to drinking smoothies every day. Smoothies help provide vitamins and minerals to your body, they give you energy and help you maintain a healthy weight. Since smoothies are very portable, you can consume them anywhere you go making it a great choice if you are traveling for work, school or need a quick replenishment for after the gym.
You can use your smoothies to get rid of your fruit and vegetables before it goes bad, meal replacements, or as a homemade snack to beat surgery or crab cravings. For example, Spinach is one of the best vegetables to include in your healthy smoothie. This green veggie has a lot of nutrients and fiber that is good for weight loss as well as cleansing your digestive system. You can add spinach into your smoothies if you want to improve eye health, boost memory, fight inflammation, delay aging and increase those energy levels by adding cucumber, grapes, or watermelon to it.
An important point to remember is that there are some guidelines when consuming smoothies as well as the types of ingredients that should be used in the smoothie. Most green smoothies will be vibrant in color and you should drink them during the morning. If you find it difficult to drink because of the thick texture then I suggest using a straw or spoon to quickly consume it.
You can drink your smoothie throughout the day, or whenever you chose to. Ideally, I find the body benefits more from it being consumed first thing in the morning so that it will be digested and absorbed into your system fast enough for you to feel energized for your day. Another factor that will determine when you will consume your smoothie is the type of ingredients used in it. Whatever ingredients are used, they should be fresh and non-processed to provide maximum benefits for your body.
The most common way of enhancing the deliciousness of a smoothie is by adding some protein powder to it. This not only enhances the texture of a smoothie but also boosts the nutritional value.
Beware of using dark fruits such as cocoa powder, coconut milk, or avocado in your smoothie as they contain high levels of oxalates which will only make you go to the bathroom more often than necessary. I found this to happen too when using bananas in my smoothies. So I would use these fruits and vegetables either first thing in the morning or after my workout when I know I’m heading home soon after.
If you desire the pretty thick consistency and easy smoothie making process then blend use bag frozen fruit. Also, you can opt for using fresh fruit and adding ice to also achieve that nice thick consistency.
Smoothies are healthy and delicious, however, you can make them healthier by keeping the sugar and fat content low. You can add a little honey or maple syrup to sweeten your smoothie a little, but avoid using coconut milk in it as it will add the same amount of fat as there is in ice cream. Instead of adding chocolate milk for an extra flavor kick, you can include some frozen berries or a banana to the mix. You can also use flavored yogurt instead of chocolate milk.
An additional benefit to include in your smoothies is to add liquid or powder vitamins as well as flaxseed powder to it.
Another benefit to smoothies is if you’re the type of person who enjoys putting something in your stomach before or after your workout then having smoothies instead of grabbing some junk food will have you feeling much better after enjoying a good, healthy smoothie instead of a greasy burger and fries.
